Help Stamp Out Hunger

On May 11th, letter carriers and volunteers will collect bags of healthy, non-perishable donated food set out by their mailboxes. Donations are delivered to the Post Office where they are sorted and then taken to local food shelves.

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is very important to local programs and neighbors in need. In the spring, food supplies are typically lower. As schools let out for the summer, the need for additional food is greater since young students don't have access to free or reduced breakfast and lunch programs. And locally, one in five children are at risk of going hungry.

In Minnesota, 1 in 10 households are food insecure -- meaning they lack consistent access to a nutritious, well-balanced diet. In the Grand Rapids area, 1 in 9 households used the Food Shelf in 2010.
