Here They Come to Save the Day!

Blandin Foundation, Itasca County and KOOTASCA employees took a moment to embrace their inner superheroes in support of the United Way’s Unleash Your Inner Hero campaign last week. The United Way campaign aims to raise $305,000 to support 27 local health and human service organizations, including Project READ; Campus Life; 4-H; YMCA; Grand Rapids, Deer River, Bigfork and Nashwauk food shelves; and Wellness Court.

United Way of 1000 Lakes Reaches 30% Mark
United Way Board President, Laura Connelly, Advocates for Family Peace and Board Member, Ryan Davis, DC, Davis Chiropractic posted the 30% mark on the United Way Thermometer located at Old Central School in Grand Rapids. To date the campaign has raised $95,500 towards its $305,000 goal. United Way brought back the thermometer in celebration of their fiftieth anniversary. Since 1963, United Way of 1000 Lakes, its supporters and volunteers, have raised $10 million to help those in need and strengthen the Itasca community. Thank you to Edward and Jennifer Eck of Eck designs, who provide the thermometer in-kind.

United Way Kicks Off 2013 Campaign
The 2013 United Way of 1000 Lakes 2013 campaign aims to raise $305,000 for greater Itasca County human service programs and initiatives. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Unleash your Inner Hero!”

“There is a hero inside all of us, someone selfless, caring and compassionate, willing to champion for those less fortunate. Together we can help our youth reach their full potential, support the aging, improving people’s health and promoting self-sufficiency”, said Kimberly Brink Smith, United Way Executive Director.
