Lumberjack Kick Off Event - Saturday, Sept. 8th
PANCAKE BREAKFAST | LUMBERJACK MILE & 5K | COOK-OFF & RELAY COMPETITION | GAMES & ACTIVITIES
Grab your favorite flannel shirt and strap on those suspenders because United Way of 1000 Lakes is inviting you to their family friendly Lumberjack Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 8th on the grounds of Old Central School in Grand Rapids.
Take part in their first annual Lumberjack Mile and 5K at 9 a.m. followed by a hot pancake breakfast and samplings from chefs dueling for this year’s pancake cook-off title. Breakfast includes a short stack of pancakes heaped with fixings from the toppings bar, sausage links, yogurt parfait, juice and coffee.
Then at 10 a.m. watch or take part in the pancake flip relay race, where teams flip pancakes to the finish line as they compete for the coveted title and ultimate bragging rights.
As delicious as this is going to be, it’s also for a good cause as donations fuel United Way’s annual fund, supporting dozens of local programs and initiatives. Suggested Donation: $6 per adult, and $3 for those ages 6-12. Pick-up and delivery also available by pre-ordering.
LUMBERJACK MILE & 5K - 8 a.m. registration, 9 a.m. race start
Grab your favorite flannel shirt, strap on those suspenders and join United Way of 1000 Lakes for a family friendly Mile and 5K fun run. Entry fee includes an awesome, soft, collectible t-shirt, bib, and great post-race lumberjack activities. The first 150 participants will receive a t-shirt, so take advantage of our early registration opportunities. Bib and t-shirt race packets are available on race day starting at 8 a.m. Race fees are $25 per adult 13 and older and $15 for ages 6-12. Kids 5 and under have free admittance, however, t-shirts are additional.
VIRTUAL CHALLENGE - now through Sept. 8th
Participants can also waive the registration fee by joining the Virtual Challenge. The challenge unites individuals and teams from businesses and organizations wanting to make an even bigger impact in the lives of others by committing to raise $100 or more per person. While everyone who completes the challenge will receive a race entry, additional prizes will be awarded to top fundraisers. For more details, visit unitedwayof1000lakes.org.
KIWANIS PANCAKE BREAKFAST - 9 to 11 a.m.
Enjoy a short stack of pancakes, toppings bar (everyone’s favorite), sausage links, yogurt and beverage. Proceeds benefit United Way. Pick-up and delivery available. Request Delivery Here >
PANCAKE COOK-OFF - 9 a.m.
Cook-off teams (costumes encouraged) will duel for the title of the finest flapjacks around. Celebrity judges, will rate aroma, presentation, taste, density and texture to determine the winners. Teams will offer guests bite size samples of their creations. Awards will be presented at 10:45 a.m. Proceeds benefit United Way.
PANCAKE RELAY RACE - 10 a.m.
Relay teams of four will race while flipping flapjacks on the course around Old Central School. Costumes encouraged. Winners will receive bragging rights and a skillet trophy. Proceeds benefit United Way.
